So my mind was wandering today, and I came to realize how much i value my smartphone (currently a Blackberry Curve).
As I’m sure anyone in my friends/family circle will tell you, I’m horrible at remembering dates/times and phone numbers. Going through college, I always had a PDA and religiously kept it up to date with my calendar and contacts! Fast-forward to 2009, now I can do all sorts of fun things with my “pda” (aka my smartphone):
- Have my email “pushed” to my phone so that i can read and respond almost instantly
- Sync my contacts, calendar, tasks, and memos between a number of computers (corporate & personal)
- Listen to music or watch tv (basically, it’s like having a 2nd iPod)
- Get directions and view maps (via Google Maps and/or other navigation software)
- Get news and updates from different websites effortlessly via integrated applications
- Browse the Internet and play games
I guess the PDA of way back has come a LONG way! Oh yeah, I forgot – I can also use it to make phone calls!! It will be interesting to see how Smartphones progress over the next few years!
