Building your Small Business or Personal Website (Part 2)

As I mentioned in my posting about Building your Small Business or Personal Website with Blogger, there are a number of ways to establish an online presence, most of which require little (if any) web programming experience.  I wanted to share some information about Microsoft Office Live.

image Office Live provides a WYSIWYG page editor that allows you to quickly and easily create a website.  You choose your theme and layout to start, and then simply add content where you wish it to display.  The “feel” of the page editor is similar to Office 2007, which some may find provides a built-in level of comfort and familiarity.  If you’re more experienced, Office Live allows you to use your own design software to create your website.  You can find a number of 3rd-Party Web Design Software packages at Amazon.

Office Live is completely FREE (up to 5 users) and there are relatively no content restrictions.  This means you can create a functional, great looking website for nothing!  There are also Similar to other platforms, you can purchase a domain name (for less than $20 per year) and tie your Office Live workspace/website to that domain name for branding purposes.   Please note:  If you plan to “monetize” your site with something like Amazon Affiliate Links or Google Adsense, you will run into difficulties and should probably look at a different platform to develop your site.

Also, don’t forget that websites are just a *small piece* of the entire offering of Office Live.  You can also use Office Live for Email, Online Document Storage, and Contact Management.

I’ve found the following websites provide some great information to help with getting started on Office Live:
