If you’ve read some of my previous posts (such as Free Internet Tools, OneNote, or The Digital Family), you know I like to find fun ways to stay organized. I was poking around the Internet looking for more information on how to sync calendars with family members and stumbled onto Cozi.com. If you’re like me, you’ve probably not heard of this FREE software and its amazing abilities. Think of it as the “new school” kitchen bulletin board, where all the members of the family can manage schedules and lists online. Here is a quick rundown on the features of Cozi.com:
- Family Calendar: All of your appointments, color-coded by family member, in a single location.
- Customizeable Lists: Shopping, grocery, to-do, chores, etc.
- Reminders: Get your appointments by email or text, and send emails from within your family’s Cozi page.
- Family Journal: Capture memories and share them with facebook friends. You can also create a web page for your family.
- Photo Screensaver: Displays your photos as well as appointment reminders and the current time.
- Mobile and Outlook Access: A mobile site lets you access Cozi.com from a smartphone and downloadable sync client integrates your Outlook and Cozi calendars.
- Telephone Access: An interesting feature – Cozi.com allows you to call a toll-free number to retrieve your lists and schedule.
I did find the way you schedule appointments in the Cozi calendar to be fairly intuitive using natural English: 8:00pm movie tomorrow, or Rob: Laundry 8:00pm every weekday. One downside for right now, there’s no automatic integration into your Smartphone’s calendar (i.e. nothing like the Google Sync for Mobile client). You can still manually integrate the calendars through the use of Cozi’s Outlook toolbar and the Blackberry Desktop Manager or Microsoft ActiveSync.
All-in-all, I think this site is already an essential tool for any family, and has potential to become even more integral as they continue adding features.
