This post is a little off-topic for our technology blog, but having just been out of town for a week I thought it worthwhile to share my experience. With more than 60% of households owning at least one pet, it would appear that there are a great number of folks out there that own a furry, little friend. Being that my fiancé and I are dog owners, I wanted to focus this posting more towards doggie daycare.
If you’re a small business owner (or otherwise have a need to travel), there may be times where you may not be able to take your furry best friend along. In the past, my fiancé and I have typically paid a friend/relative to dog-sit while we were away. However, we found that with this option, the dogs didn’t get the same attention they usually had from us. This led to problems with them being nervous/stressed and then having problems keeping food down for a few days (cleanup was always a mess the first few days). Also, most of our friends/relatives have schedules nearly as busy as we do, so at times it can be hard finding someone with the spare time to help doggy-sit.
We went on a hunt to find an appropriate doggie day camp. We researched a few pet boarding services and pet hotels for our two furry friends. At many of the places, we noticed a similar trend – there wasn’t an all-inclusive price that included the overnight boarding AND doggie daycare. For most, there was one price for overnight boarding, and then additional prices for “play time” (individual attention) and/or day-time boarding. If you do research on the doggie day camps in your area, you’ll probably find that your local Veterinarians and/or PetSmart PetsHotel work the same way. To us, it didn’t seem fair that our pups would be locked up all day or that they only got an occasional “walk” for extra fees. Personally, I thought it unfair that the boarding places took the stance that we had to “pay to play,” or that “doggie day camp” was billed as a separate item from “overnight boarding” each day.
However, in our search we stumbled onto a relatively new (to our area) doggie day care and boarding facility – Camp Bow Wow. If you’ve not heard about Camp Bow Wow (CBW) before, let me be the first to tell you it’s the greatest place to board your dog! My fiance and I were at a loss for a decent place to board the dogs, and the Camp Bow Wow website initially caught our interest because of their whole concept to boarding – “Play all day, sleep the night away.” Sounds just like a trip to camp (or grandma’s house), yes? Having never heard of it before, we started hunting for Camp Bow Wow reviews and didn’t get many worthwhile hits. My fiance and I called our local Camp Bow Wow for more information. The friendly voice on the other end of the phone invited us to visit the facilities. We were floored that they were so open and excited to show us around! I was immediately impressed by the friendliness of the staff and the way they engage with the dogs. Plus, the facilities were spotless and CLEAN! They really know how to do doggy day care right!
If you landed here because you’re also looking for Camp Bow Wow reviews (much like we were), here’s a few of the things we love about CBW:
- They put each “camper” through an evaluation process and allow a free day camp session for each new camper. This allows them to note your dog’s behavior and suitability for camp, helping to reduce issues with aggressive behavior and fighting.
- Each “day camp” area has both indoor and outdoor access, allowing your dog the ability to play in the fresh air and sun if they choose to. I noted that our local CBW also puts out a baby pool of cold water for play-time during the summer.
- All Indoor/Outdoor play areas have webcams, which allow you to monitor your dog’s behavior remotely and check on them during daytime play hours. Trust me, this will become addictive once you start watching it!
- If you board overnight, “day camp” is included in the cost of over-night boarding! Be assured your dog will come home TIRED, which is most helpful when you’re attempting to unpack!
- They’re flexible in allowing you to bring treats/toys/bedding to help your dog feel at home and minimize stress.
- The “kennel” areas (for night-time and mid-day feedings/naps) are ample size. Our particular Camp Bow Wow was even kind enough to place our two dogs in boarding areas across from each other, as our one dog gets very worrisome and nervous when the other dog is out-of-sight. Kudos for their willingness to help with “special needs” dogs of all kinds!
- They are strict about immunization records, which helps cut down on the instances of bordatella and other diseases that could affect your furry friend.
- They’re reasonably priced, considering that your dog is in a play area all day (except for feeding times) and monitored by one of their “camp counselors.”
- They also provide in-home pet care services through their Home Buddies program.
- Some locations also offer the “Behavior Buddies” service, which provides expert dog training support.
If you’re located in Northeast Ohio, there is a Camp Bow Wow in Strongsville (our personal favorite) which is fairly convenient to Cleveland Hopkins airport. There are also a number of other Camp Bow Wow locations, including Westlake, Bedford Heights, and Cuyahoga Falls (great for the Canton/Akron folks). If you potentially need to board your dog overnight, or want to put them in doggie daycare (to help relieve some pent-up energy), I highly recommend you take a look at Camp Bow Wow!
PET OWNERS: Do you find it nearly impossible to keep up with the hair from your pets? Are you constantly having to take your vacuum apart to clear the suction path of all the hair and dander you’re sucking out of your carpets? I finally found the solution!
