If you read my posting about Remote Backup for Home and Small Business, you’ll know I’m a fan of iDrive and BackBlaze for “Remote” backups. If you happen to live in an area without access to Broadband Internet, or still have reservations about putting your valuable files online, check out my eHow article about How to Backup Your Computer with an External USB Drive and iDrive Portable Software.
The iDrive Portable software makes setting up a local backup incredibly easy. You can also have the software encrypt your backups, keeping your data safe if your USB drive is accidentally lost or stolen. If you do later decide to sign up for an iDrive Online Backup account, you can enable the Online Backup from within the iDrive Portable software (no need for an uninstall/reinstall)!
