Just saw a posting at Engadget that the HP MediaSmart servers (EX490 and EX495) now have better support for Mac computers. If you remember from my posting about The Digital Family, I mentioned that Windows Home Server was a potentially great way to enable media sharing among all your home technology. While the current line of HP Media Smart Home Servers gained Mac support with a Firmware Update, the new machines will take the Mac support a step further with better bare-metal restores via time-machine, and media streaming to Mac devices including iPhone/iPod. The new machines also pack better drive expandability via high-speed external connectors (USB/eSATA), allowing you a HUGE amount of storage space!
If you’re debating a Windows Home Server purchase, I definitely recommend holding off and waiting for the EX490 series. If you would rather dig in now, you can grab a bargain (up to 25% off) on the previous versions (EX485 and EX487) at Amazon. I've heard nothing but good about these. HP supports these very well. So well, in fact, that when the first version of these machines didn't have enough RAM for the latest update, they sent out memory to those that wanted it.
