While I previously mentioned that Snow Leopard was getting rave reviews and probably worth installing, I have ran across an Engadget article titled “Snow Leopard ‘Guest Account’ bug deleting user files, terrorizing children?” that definitely needs a mention. Basically, it appears that by logging in to the Guest Account on your computer, Snow Leopard deletes all the files in the Primary Account (music, documents, photos, everything)! Talk about a huge pain in the rear if this happens! Plus, it appears that by upgrading from an older OS X install to Snow Leopard, your (previously disabled) “Guest” account could be re-enabled.
The Engadget article suggests disabling your “Guest” account, which in all reality is a basic best practice for securing your computer. If you don’t know how to do this, I would suggest reading “How to Disable the Guest Account in Snow Leopard” at eHow. Hopefully this posting finds all our Mac users before something bad happens! Let this also be (yet another) lesson on the value of backing up your data!!
