I was just reading an article on TechCrunch about how Google Chrome is now 30 million users strong!
I’ve been using Google Chrome for close to a year now, and have been advocating the use of this browser to pretty much everyone I can. While its actual share of the browser market is small (slightly more than 3 percent), I would bet it will continue to gain a huge following in a short amount of time. If you think about it, the nice part about Chrome is its one of the few browsers left that simply provide fast, efficient web browsing! Yeah, you can skin it so it looks “purdy,” but it pretty much sticks to web browsing.
Lets look at its competitors. We all know that Internet Explorer is bloated and slow. In my own experience, Microsoft rarely adheres to web standards, and runs so much stuff in the background that it takes a long time to load web pages. However, I’ve also noticed the same type of “feature creep” in Firefox. While Firefox has gone the correct route in making some additional functionality available as “add-ons” (in other words, I don’t have to install it if I don’t want), the base install still doesn’t seem to be as fast as Chrome.
If you haven’t used Google Chrome yet, I’d highly encourage you to give it a try. It’s a pretty easy install, and I bet you’ll be happy you tried it! Feel free to Contact Me or leave a comment about any other browsers you’ve tried.
NOTE: Just a heads-up for all you Mac users, there is a version of Chrome in development. I would keep an eye out for the final release if you’re looking for an alternative to Safari.
